The Doug

The Doug was felled on July 10, 2002 as part of the Berry Patch timber sale (pictured below) on the Willamette National Forest in western Oregon. This particular sale resulted in the clearcut-logging of 99 acres of old growth timber, enough to fill more than a thousand logging trucks.

The Doug is from a Douglas Fir, the second tallest tree species in America. It stood more than 200 feet tall before it was logged at the age of 420 and was 6.5 feet in diameter.

View a photo gallery of the Doug's reincarnation as a traveling representative of the nation's threatened forests.

Clearcuts of this nature will be repeated over and over very soon if something isn't done. Learn how you can help >
